Background

Rapid urbanization has trapped millions of people in cities like Delhi, where they live in informal settlements and can't find work. The Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) says that most of the people who work in this informal sector don't have normal jobs, financial security, or the chance to strengthen their skills. In urban slums, there is as much entrepreneurial spirit as anywhere else, if not more. However, micro-entrepreneurs who want to start their own businesses face existential problems like not having any seed money and not knowing how modern supply lines work. UDAAN was created to get rid of these institutional barriers. The focus has shifted from short-term aid to a structured framework that turns raw potential into self-sufficient sources of income.
